About the Sanctuary

Here at the Unwanted Feral Cat Sanctuary of Cocoa, FL, our small but passionate team works tirelessly to provide medical care and sanctuary to those who need it the most. Officially established in 2019 by Billie Middaugh, our sanctuary quickly gained popularity in the local community. Flying under the radar of larger organizations, word of mouth and fierce support from local donors who saw the spirit of the sanctuary helped it to grow.

What sets us apart from most rescues and animal welfare organizations is that we aim to provide lifetime care and safety to the cats who come to us. Although we do adoptions on a small scale with well socialized cats and kittens, most of our cats stay at the sanctuary for the remainder of their lives. Feral and community cats are seen as a nuisance in some communities, especially when they are not well socialized or adapted to humans. These cats cannot go on to be

placed in homes as pets. At the sanctuary, we are grateful to be able to provide medical care as needed upon intake and allow these cats to have a safe place to live where they are wanted and provided for. While we want to provide for as many cats as possible, we prioritize our available spaces for elderly, disabled, injured, and sick feral cats, as well as those who are in immediate danger in their environment.

With feral cats being in no short supply, we hope to continue to grow well into the future. Part of that growth in 2025 included becoming an officially incorporated non-profit organization in Florida. Our goal is to obtain 501(c)(3) status by the end of 2025 to assist us in our mission here in our Brevard County community.
